CHARTRES DRAWING: 18-INCH LAMINATED
(Can be used as finger labyrinth)

The Chartres labyrinth is a complicated design. I have seen people take considerable liberties in trying to capture it. Our drawings were done on the computer by Andy Olney, with analysis and input from me (Robert Ferré). It is quite accurate.

Having said that, the labyrinth itself is rather hard to measure. There are numerous books on Chartres which give conflicting measurements for the labyrinth. Further complicating the matter is the presence of mortar between the stones of the line and the path. How do you determine the measurements, to the center of the mortar? And what exactly is the shape of the lunations that go around the outside? All of these questions and difficulties had to be overcome to make this drawing.

I have been to Chartres many times, measuring the labyrinth. In the end, although there are a few compromises one must make, I think this is a very accurate drawing. This is the laminated version. It is useful to show when talking about the labyrinth, to use as a finger labyrinth, and in a number of other ways. The shipping cost is relatively high due to the cost of a sturdy tube and Priority Mail.
