Driving from St. Louis to California, my assistant Judy and I ate and lodged at old establishments on Route 66, America's highway. Quite interesting. Route 66 was a social phenomenon, when cars went slower. Its winding course passed right through the towns. The modern super highway avoided the towns, stretching in a straight line that cuts Route 66 into many pieces, some of which have been totally abandoned.

Trinity Episcopal Church is on State Street in Santa Barbara. Chuck Hunner flew out from North Carolina to join us. There are three stages to our all-concrete technology: Cutting, Coloring, and Coating. By coating, I mean sealing (I just wanted three "C" words).

More than once Chuck climbed to the top of the church tower to see the view and take photos of the labyrinth.
